Academics
A fundamental academics program, which stresses the ability to read fluently with understanding, to speak clearly, and to compute mathematical problems with precision, is provided.
Pre-Kindergarten
To present basic academic concepts such as the recognition of colors, alphabet, letters & sounds, numerals and individual names.
To teach skills such as holding and using a pencil or crayon correctly, using scissors correctly and cooperating in-group situations.
To develop creativity.
Kindergarten
Arithmetic - printing and recognizing numbers through 100 and verbal counting 100
Reading - recognition of the alphabet, recognition of phonetic sounds; reading through pre-primers; developing a reading vocabulary
Social Studies - emphasis on health, safety, science, and children of other lands
Physical Education - supervised activities with an emphasis upon coordination
Creative Expression - lessons in music, arts and crafts
Grades One through Eight
Language Arts - The phonetic principles taught are applicable to each reading level. Diagonostic tests are given. Textbooks are chosen from several reading levels to meet individual needs. English usage is coordinated with the phonics program. Penmanship is stressed as a means of communication as well as an art.
Social Studies - Grade one will focus on the home, school, and transportation. Second grade students are taught about community life, while third graders study the components of a model community. Fourth graders study California in relationship to the USA, neighboring states and the hemisphere. In grade five, the USA, its westward movement and the natural resources will be covered. Sixth graders will study the beginning civilization of the Roman Empire. Further attention is given to the seventh and eighth graders will cover the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United States, local government and Civics.
Arithmetic - The modern mathematics program serves as a basic curriculum. Traditional concepts are also taught for the students practical skills.
Creative Activities - Music, Speech, Drama, and Art
Physical Education - Drills to develop coordination are stressed, along with teamwork, and good sportsmanship
Standards for Written Work - The heading consists of the student's first and last name, subject and date placed to the top of the right corner.
